My name is Ryan Ideta and I have been coaching tennis for 27 years. I am an active RSPA member for the last 22 years. Tennis has been my passion since I started at age 9. I was very fortunate to learn the sport of tennis under the tutelage of legendary coach....Mr. Wakida and his dominant tennis program in Lahaina, Maui. I played high school tennis at Lahainaluna High School. Growing up, I competed in USTA tournaments from 10 and under through 18 and under. I was also very blessed to have been coached by former Punahou Director Bernard Gusman. Bernard accompanied me to many national junior tournaments. I also had the privilage to train under world class tennis players Buzz and Skip Strode. Upon graduation I earned a full tennis scholarship to play at Louisiana State University under ITA Hall of Fame coach Jerry Simmons. After college I competed on the pro circuit for 2 years before coming back to Hawaii. I am very appreciative of having Busch Makekau coach me while I competed on the tour. I ended up marrying my childhood tennis friend Nikki and moved to Hilo, Hawaii. We have 3 beautiful children and two dogs. I am a Yonex Brand Ambassador for 26 years. My racket of choice is Yonex Ezone 98 Aqua Night Black Gen 7 strung with Yonex Poly Tour Pro 16L yellow at 38lbs.

Coach Ryan and Coach Nikki

Nikki Ideta was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii. She was a Two time Big Island Interscholastic League Doubles champion for Waiakea High School. She earned a scholarship to play college tennis for the UH-Hilo Vulcans. "Aunty Nikki" as her students call her, is also a Yonex Brand Ambassador. Nikki is the heart and soul of Ideta Tennis and Pickleball. She has a deep passion for the game and has a soft heart for her students. Coach Nikki wears her personality on her sleeve and she develops special relationships with her students no matter what age or level. Her vibrant personality radiates on and off the court. Coach Nikki's racket of choice is Yonex Vcore 100 strung with Yonex Poly Tour Rev 16L at 53lbs.

Coach Ezri

Ezri was born and raised on the Big Island. He was a HHSSA state qualifier in doubles with partner Rylan Gumbs in 2024. Ezri is a humble, but personable coach. He is very technical and is extremely analytical when it comes to breaking down a stroke. Coach Ezri is big on fitness and loves to do conditioning drills and exercises. Ezri is currently available for private and group lessons for adults and juniors of all ages and levels. He is actively playing USTA adult leagues in the 3.5/4.0 level.

Coach Kaiya

Kaiya is a sophomore on the UH-Hilo women's Tennis team (2026-27). As a freshmen, she and her partner Lulu had the best record on the team at #3 doubles. Toward the end of the season, Kaiya had some big wins playing #6 singles for the Vulcans. She won her last two singles matches over HPU and Colorado Mesa, both in 3 tough sets.

In high school, she and Jada Igawa won the BIIF doubles title in 2025 beating Annika Nishida and Sola Bando in a tough battle. The duo placed 3rd in the HHSSA tournament beating Punahou's #1 doubles team to earn 3rd place. Waiakea High School girls tennis came in second in 2025 to the eventual champions Punahou.

Kaiya is offering hitting sessions for advanced players (juniors and adults). She does private lessons with juniors and adults as well. Kaiya is quiet natured and her students love her kind and caring demeanor. She is currently a UTR 7 in singles and doubles. Kaiya's racket of choice is Yonex Ezone 98 Aqua Night Black Gen 7 strung with Solinco Confidential Soft 17 G at 51 lbs.

Coach Blake: Blake has been playing tennis his entire life. He played high school at Waiakea High School and competed in USTA tournaments from a young age. Blake loves kids and the kids love him. He is very animated with his students. Blake is personable and has a passion for the game. Adults enjoy hitting with Blake because of his enthusiasm and tennis ability. Blake is a Dunlop Brand Ambassador. His racket of choice is Dunlop FX 500 Tour strung at 53lbs with Yonex Poly Tour Pro 16L.

Assistant Coaches:

Aaron Ideta

Aaron was ranked as high as #5 in the State of Hawaii as a junior. He participated in Zonals in Tucson, Arizona. Aaron played two years of high school tennis and qualified for the HHSSA state tournament both years.

Paul Brilhante

Coach Paul was a top junior in the State of Hawaii and the top junior in his age division on the Big Island. Paul currently is in his 3rd year of the Baylor Club tennis team. Paul assists Ideta Tennis and Piko when he comes home on his breaks from school.

Dylan Benevides

Coach Dylan is an active USTA league player. He is one of the most "fun" coaches out there. Dylan is very energetic and one can hear him coaching from far away. Dylan has changed his life through tennis. He has lost 100 lbs since he started tennis and maintains an active lifestyle. Dylan is available for private or group lessons. His racket of choice is the Yonex Ezone 98 Espresso strung with Toroline Otoro.
