Coach Ryan

My name is Ryan Ideta and I have been coaching tennis for 24 years. I am an active USPTA member for the last 19 years. Tennis has been my passion since I started at age 9. I was very fortunate to grow up under the tutelage of Mr. Wakida and his strong tennis program in Lahaina, Maui. I played high school tennis at Lahainaluna High School. Growing up, I competed in USTA tournaments from 10 and under through 18 and under. Upon graduation I earned a full tennis scholarship to play at Louisiana State University. After college I competed on the pro circuit for 2 years before coming back to Hawaii. I ended up marrying my childhood tennis friend Nikki and moved to Hilo, Hawaii. We have 3 beautiful children and two dogs. My racket of choice is Yonex Ezone 98 strung with Yonex Poly Tour Pro 16L at 30lbs.

Coach Melvin Benevides

Assistant Coach/Hitting Partner/Mental Coach/Fitness Coordinator

Melvin was born and raised on the Big Island. He attended Kamahameha School Hawaii campus. He started tennis as a sophomore in high school and has never looked back since. Melvin was a doubles specialist in high school and his senior year he and Eric Lau placed 3rd in the BIIF championship tournament. He qualified for high school states that year and lost to the doubles finalists that year . Melvin is now rated a 5.0 player and is an avid tennis player. Melvin's racket of choice is Dunlop CS 200.

Coach Nikki

Nikki Ideta was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii. She was a Two time Big Island Interscholastic League Doubles champion for Waiakea High School. She earned a scholarship to play college tennis for the UH-Hilo Vulcans. "Aunty Nikki" as her students call her, is also a Yonex Brand Ambassador. Nikki is the heart and soul of Ideta Tennis and Pickleball. She has a deep passion for the game and has a soft heart for her students. Coach Nikki wears her personality on her sleeve and she develops special relationships with her students no matter what age or level. Her vibrant personality radiates on and off the court. Coach Nikki's racket of choice is Yonex Vcore 100 strung with Solinco Hyper G 19 gauge at 53lbs.

Strength and Conditioning Coach: Mari Giel

Mari is a certified personal trainer. She is an experienced Pro Bikini Competitor. She has competed throughout Hawaii and on the mainland. She is bringing her knowledge from all her years of training to help our tennis students meet their fitness goals.
